Insulating Home Offices, Studios and Lodges

A shed salesman might tell you that you can insulate a shed with panels of polystyrene and then fix inner wall panels ... job done. You have a fully insulated garden office. (yeah right!)

Wall Insulation insn't as simple as that, all walls roof and floor require insulation. Thermal insulation is required to maintain a comfortable temperature for you to work in, indeed a smaller building can be heated simply by the lighting and even computer equipment, right into our British winter.

Throughout your quest for a perfectly thermal insulated garden office you will encounter words and trade names such as SIPS (Structural Insulated Panels)

Thermafleece, Rockwool, High density rigid foam with aluminium foil backing, breather paper membrane, vapour barrier screen, good old polystyrene ...and more.

One of the reasons why you might choose to work from a garden office as opposed to commuting is ecology, it is therefore important to choose a garden office that will keep heat loss to a minimum, for the sake of the environment and of course your pocket.

Some may claim that Thermofleece and Rockwool are far more eco-friendly than polystyrene and high density rigid foam, but others will tell you that in time the eco-friendly products will tend to sag.

This will leave an un-insulated void around the top part of the walls resulting in heat loss.
